Indonesia Intend to Replace Vietnam as Patin World Supplier

Vietnam is the largest market for Patin in the world, since the export of Patin in that country is in a form of processing product. Beside, it has low interest for capital in Patin enterprise and good work ethic of Vietnamese. Director General of Aquaculture of MMAF, Made L. Nurdjana stated it is going to be replaced by Indonesia since the production of Patin in Kampar, Riau is growing rapidly.

The Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries H.E Fadel Muhammad convey that the MMAF are going to make Indonesia as the largest fish producer in 2015, one of the potential commodity is Patin.

The Regent of Kampar, Burhanuddin Husin stated that the production of Patin in Kampar reach 63 ton/day. The target is the establish of 82.000 from 7.150 unit (8,7%) of keramba and 6.111,3 from 700,03 ha (11,46%) of pond.

Made L. Nurdjana stated the quality of Patin in Indonesia is better than in Vietnam, since Mekong river as the place for aquaculture is contaminated. Meanwhile the rules for fish quality from Union European and United States are getting strict with quality control system using traceability.

He also stated to increase the quality, MMAF intend to establish feed factory to support Patin Aquaculture. Burhanuddin attempt to establish frozen Patin fillet company. Meanwhile, legislative member from Commission IV Wan Abubakar support all attempt for Patin aquaculture.
